Costa Rica is the jewel in Central America’s crown thanks in no small part to an abundance of natural wonders. Here, you’ll encounter wild beaches flanked by lush jungles, giant sea turtles hurling themselves onto remote shores and dolphin pods paying in the waves. Once I experienced this paradise for myself I wasn’t just struck by the country’s beauty but also the incredible hotels it has to offer. If you’re looking to hit the beach on your next vacation, this one’s for you. Here are a few of my favorite, new beach properties in Costa Rica.
The vibe at Kasiiya – you can be as active as you want or as much of a beach bum as you please. If you want to take full advantage of the activities they offer, (kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, snorkeling, and movement sessions), you could have an action-packed schedule all day.
This is a great idea if you also want to take advantage of the beautiful sunrises and sunsets visible on either side of the property. If relaxing on a private beach with a good book and getting a massage is more your style, you can do just that as well. Whatever you need out of your vacation, you truly can find your own pace at Kasiiya.
Extremely attentive and accommodating service. The staff will go above and beyond with little touches that will make you feel special and relaxed. They dropped off hot water outside of your door at 5 am so you can enjoy a sunrise coffee from your room, and will also offered alternative ideas and excursions whether rain or shine.
You’ll also find three virtually private beaches – one which is located directly in front of the hotel, one only accessible by a short paddle via kayak or paddle board, and one completely private, wild beach only open to hotel guests.
I would recommend at least 3 nights to be able to really take advantage of all of the activities they have to offer, as well as ample time to just relax and enjoy the three beaches.

When You Want Eclectic & Handcrafted. With That Bold Touch of Luxury
While staying in one of their suites or bungalows, you’ll to be surrounded by a fusion of classic Victorian architecture and modern, colorful interior design, lush green jungle paths, and an overall chilled out vibe. The short walking path to beach opens up to a rugged, secluded beach. A short distance from the beautiful Cahuita National Park and downtown Puerto Viejo, you will find a great balance of jungle, beach, and nightlife.
Aguas Claras was the spacious wraparound porch on my casita. Experienced the true Caribbean weather with one day of beautiful sunshine and blue skies and another of heavy tropical downpour. During the downpour, you can just relaxed on your porch, drank some tea, or an adult beverage, and listened to the calming jungle sounds of nature. Feel at home and relaxed at Aguas Claras!
3 nights is the perfect amount of time to have a chill day by the pool and/or beach, enjoy the cute downtown area, and a day of snorkeling or exploring the national park.
Couples, honeymooners, groups of friends (no children under 12)
The Gilded Iguana feels like an upscale surf camp for any age and any level of surfing. Whether you’ve never been on a board in your life or you’re basically a pro, the Gilded Iguana truly has something for everyone. Claiming to be one of the best spots in the world to learn how to surf due to the steady sets, The Gilded Iguana has a surf club, juice bar, on site restaurant, and amazing pool. The adventure sports aren’t just limited the water – they also specialize in mountain biking. Even if you have zero interest in surfing or mountain biking, the beach which is roughly a 3-minute walk from the hotel and the pool at the hotel is a great way to unwind.
The beach, the live music, and the amazing surf lesson to look forward to.
At least 3 nights at the pre or post of your trip if you want to see other parts of Costa Rica.
Couples, families with young children or teenagers, groups of friends – great for all!
